Specialist Senior Registered Nurse (Quality)

Objective:
To assume a leadership role within the nursing department in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team, ensuring patient care outcomes are in accordance with Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) vision and mission. Actively participates in Nursing Quality Improvement initiatives and implementation of Accreditation Standards as well as Performance Improvement and Research projects.  Through clinical practice, audit, research and teaching, continually improve standards of care and patient experience with evidence-based practice, quality assurance and monitoring within the service. 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Abide by standards of care and practice and using own initiative, act independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills, maintaining nursing professional code of ethics.
  2. Active in the delivery of initiatives to maintain Quality Improvement targets and sets performance improvement plans to achieve desired outcomes in line with the institutional strategic goals. Including conducting surveillance for hand hygiene and other infection-related key performance indicators
  3. Deputise for Nurse Manager in their absence or when requested.
  4. Contributes to implementation and reporting of nursing practices in accordance with Ministry of Health (MOH) and DDI policies and procedures, as well as National and International Standards of Care and Accreditation standards.
  5. Adhere to, implement and contribute to development of nursing policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the clinical area to ensure that working practice is underpinned by current best clinical practice evidence.
  6. To deliver and support with the planning, implementation, and participation in training and educational activities for all DDI staff.
  7. Audit, evaluate and monitor current nursing practices and interventions to improve clinical outcomes whilst maintaining and improving the quality-of-service delivery, to ensure provision of effective and evidenced-based care are met to the highest standards.
  8. Ensure availability & cost-effective utilization of supplies & safe operation of equipment.
  9. Ensure all DDI infection control policies and procedures are regularly updated, revised, reviewed, and implemented in accordance with National and International guidelines & standards and evidence-based practice.
  10. Assume responsibility for the infection control, including leading the investigation and control of outbreaks of infection and/or potential infection-related incidents.
  11. Act as a role model through the provision of professional nursing leadership and demonstration of competent and effective practice within the nursing and research team.
  12. Liaise with Department Managers and support clinical teams and other senior clinical staff in establishing and maintaining high standards in the delivery of practices and continual improvement within the established governance framework.
  13. Undertake baseline audits, analyze information to inform process improvement work on service priorities that will deliver improvements.
  14. Work flexibly across the organization and perform other assignments within the scope of practice based on institutional/departmental requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Nursing Staff/CSSD

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (master’s in nursing or related field is a plus)
  • Experience at Supervisory level

Requirements:

  1. 8 years relevant nursing with broad range of clinical nursing experience.
  2. 2 years Senior Nurse level experience
  3. Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or equivalent
  4. Experience of Quality Improvement, Clinical Audit and Service evaluation
  5. Experience of data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings
  6. Excellent IT/computer skills (Microsoft packages/EHR) & presentation skills
  7. Supervisory & Leadership skills
  8. Good team working/leadership skills with ability to motivate others and work independently.
  9. Excellent organizational, time management/prioritizing skills/ ability to work under pressure
  10. Experience in teaching and research processes
  11. Demonstrable problem solving and change management skills
  12. Evidence of continued academic and/or professional development
  13. Preferrable experience in quality management, quality assurance, infection control
  14. Desirable qualification – advance QI training and project management
