Full time permanent: 37.5hrs per week. Monday – Friday – the service is open between 08:30-17:00

We’re looking for a Senior Paediatric Theatre Practitioner to join our Outpatient team at The Portland Hospital, currently rated “Good” by the CQC

84 Harley street outpatients is part of the Portland Hospital. The department treats both Adult/paediatric patients with a focus on paediatric plastics, this includes paediatric minor ops, baby circumcisions and tongue ties and paediatric lasers treatment.  

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join our Paediatric outpatients Plastic team Department. The nurse will work alongside the outpatient’s plastics and nursing team to ensure the smooth running of the department. The successful applicant will work closely with the multidisciplinary team supporting the care of patients who could be under the care of any of our consultants. The successful candidate will assist the daily running of the nurse led plastic dressing clinic and minor procedure lists. 

The successful individual will maintain effective communication channels between patient who have undergone paediatric minor ops procedures.  
Applications are welcome from nurses that have experience within wound care settings and have a keen interest in the management of simple and complex wounds applying expert knowledge of the wound healing process, any outpatients or minor ops paediatric experience is also valuable.  
  
Duties & Responsibilities 
Maintain the clinical area so that it is safe and welcoming for patients, visitors and staff 

To demonstrate good clinical practice at all times and to be accountable for own actions. 

Assist in the organisation of the nurse’s clinic diary to ensure smooth and efficient appointments. 

The management of patients wound care with and without supervision. 

Assist with minor procedures undertaken within the department under local anaesthesia. 

Responsible for the collection of specimens for laboratory and follow up results as needed. 

Assisting with clinical procedures and following up care of the patient. 

Chaperone when required to protect the interests of patients and colleagues, preserving patient’s privacy & dignity. 

Ensures all documentation meets the standards of the NMC, Legal and Company guidance for Record keeping 

Contribute to the collection and record data for audit purposes. 

Take charge of the outpatient’s plastics unit and manage patient flow safely and efficiently   

Manage allocated resources effectively and efficiently.   

Ensure that tailored care plans are in place for all patients in the designated clinical area.   

Skills & Experience 
NMC registered – Children's register essential, dual children and adult registered desirable

Previous experience working within paediatric outpatients and with some wound care knowledge and have a keen interest in the treatment of post-surgical wounds and non-surgical wounds. 

Previous work within a paediatric plastic surgery setting either as an inpatient nurse or clinic environment would be advantageous and/or paediatric theatre/minor ops work. 

The ability to work autonomously in the paediatric dressing clinic. 

Early recognition of clinical problems and report or take appropriate action. 

Ability to develop good working relations with clinicians working in the department and all other service providers. 

Effective in all forms of communication to patients and family in relation to ongoing care and advice following treatment.
