Senior Clinical Fellow

About The Role

Clifton Park Hospital (CPH) is an independent sector elective orthopaedic hospital in York, expected to deliver over 5000 procedures annually, over 2000 of which being hip and knee procedures for NHS and private patients.

For over 17 years higher surgical trainees including many SpRs and post CCT fellows have gained excellent training experience with our Consultants as part of their Higher Surgical Training.

This new fixed term (6-12 month) full-time post, available immediately, will provide similar experience as well as opportunity for independent operating. It is specifically designed to give specialist surgical experience prior to taking up a consultant post.

The Senior Clinical Fellow, will work at senior middle grade level with appropriate levels of supervision from named senior Consultant specialist surgeons undertaking high volumes of Orthopaedic procedures.

The postholder's timetable will be tailored to their career aims, working with the teams which can provide optimum clinical and operative experience for their needs. All aspects of soft tissue and arthroplasty knee surgery are undertaken, all types of primary and revision hip surgery also. Should the successful appointee wish to work in one predominant area, this would be easy to arrange.

There is, therefore, the opportunity to gain experience in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of hip and knee pathology, with involvement in the whole orthopaedic patient pathway from initial out-patient consultation, pre-operative and post-operative care through to discharge and follow-up care of patients.

Although the post is not primarily a research post, the postholder may participate in the established research programmes aiming for at least one research publication and/or presentation during their tenure.

Key core competency goals will be agreed and an educational contract signed by the post holder and their Supervisor on appointment.

The position is for 40 hours a week, including time for CPD. A part time position would also be considered. There is no on call or out of hours commitment.
