Job Description:
The Risk Manager is an integral part of the Governance team. Working with stakeholders and supporting the clinical teams, the role is responsible for developing and maintaining open, proactive and inclusive Risk and Patient Safety processes across The Lister Hospital. In turn this will facilitate identification of trends and areas for improvement and drive forward the ongoing development of robust, up to date systems, processes and programs in line with national initiatives that will lead to the delivery of exceptional care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the development of the Hospital Risk Management Strategy under the direction of the Head of Governance promoting and embedding a positive risk management culture across the Lister Hospital.
Liaise with the corporate team in Risk Management activities.
Lead on the management of patient safety incident reports, investigations and dissemination of lessons learnt.
Support the adoption and implementation of the new Patient Safety Incident Framework under the direction of the Head of Governance. Lead and participate in systematic incident investigations utilising appropriate tools and techniques.
Manage the Risk Register process offering support, training and advice to all staff across the Lister Hospital to ensure it is proactive and up to date.
Identify trends and potential risks from incident reports to support improvement to patient safety and clinical quality. Produce ‘hot topics’ and ‘Learning from’ publications based on issues identified.
Lead on the monitoring and implementation of National Alerts issued through the Central Alerting System within designated timeframes.
Maintain information held within Datix ensuring information is accurate and up to date
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure transparency and support the Duty of Candour process across the Lister Hospital.
Work collaboratively with the Quality and Effectiveness Manager within the overarching Governance Structure to triangulate learning form incidents, audits and complaints.
Compile and present reports to relevant hospital committees including trend analysis and advice for key stakeholders.
Ensure that all requirements for external reporting are visible and managed by the appropriate teams to meet defined timeframes.
Work with the HCA UK Corporate Clinical Services Department and local Heads of Departments (HoD) to ensure a standardised approach to CQC inspection compliance is maintained

Skills and experience:

Knowledge of the governance and UK legislative framework
Previous experience and knowledge of clinical governance and risk management processes
Clinical background or experience desirable
Experience working in a clinical environment
IT skills including Datix or equivalent, Excel, Word, Microsoft Office
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
