The Portland Hospital is excited to recruit for a Unit Sister in this new role developing our state-of-the-art Ambulatory Gynae Unit where we see and treat patients using a full range of diagnostic, outpatient and surgical treatments all on one site.

As the Sister in the Ambulatory Gynae Unit you will be responsible and accountable for the provision of high-quality care within the unit, providing clinical leadership, direction and support for all staff. You will also work within the gynaecology team to provide care to all women during their in-patient stay.
Duties & Responsibilities
To Provide expert, individualised, nursing care to patients receiving care for within the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit (AGU) for Cystoscopy, Hysteroscopy, Hysteroscopy and Myosure and Manual Vacuum Aspiration
To demonstrate a consistently high standard of clinical practice at all times in the provision of care. To participate by authoring and contributing towards Guidelines to ensure this high standard of clinical practice.
To respect and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
To provide gynaecology advice and information to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to women and their families without supervision, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team to facilitate women centred family focused care.
To be responsible for the day to day shift co-ordination of the gynaecology unit, providing gynaecology leadership, guidance, expert clinical advice and managerial skills.
To oversee care provided by registered and non-registered staff within their sphere of responsibility.
To review ‘work force planning’ and secure adequate cover from temporary staffing if required to ensure staffing levels are maintained to set staffing criteria.
To work closely with consultant gynaecologists to support high quality care.
Deal with complex situations and take appropriate action in emergency or unforeseen situations.
To work autonomously within guidelines and the sphere of professional practice.
Participate in clinical audits and guideline writing to maintain a high quality service.
Support the management of the duty rota / annual leave and study leave to ensure that at all time there is adequate nursing cover and appropriate skill mix for the ward / department.
To work within the ward / department budget to ensure effective and efficient use of resources.
Maximise revenue capture from patient care and seek to develop revenue generation initiatives.

What you’ll bring:
Registered General Nurse with valid NMC Registration
Significant post-registration clinical experience
Master’s degree (or working towards) in Women’s Health or Gynaecology or equivalent/higher post graduate qualification
Demonstrable experience of working in theatres, ambulatory gynaecology setting
Leadership or management experience
Teaching/Assessing/mentoring qualification
Basic adult and newborn Life Support
Competent in cannulation and venepuncture
