Milford Care was established in 1985 with the opening of Milford House. 30 years later we have recently celebrated the opening of our 6th Care Home, Ashbourne Lodge. In this time the Group has remained in the hands of the same two families and has never lost sight of its aim to deliver excellent care to our communities in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Over the years Milford Care has consistently progressed and improved its service which is evidenced by the many complements and commendations we receive from our residents and their loved ones and the numerous awards our staff have received over the years. These are a testament to the culture of the group which allows caring individuals to thrive.
Milford Care is a place where all staff are nurtured and encouraged to further their personal development. This is evidenced by the number of staff whom we promote from within. Some have worked for the company for over 25 years and through their own hard work, and the Company’s recognition and investment in their potential, they have been promoted to senior leadership roles. Our Managers have over 90 years of experience and service with Milford Care between them.
All staff are offered extensive training and some have completed advanced Dementia training accredited by Bradford and Stirling University. This increased knowledge and skills enables us to enhance the lives of our residents who live with dementia. The group were also one of the first to complete the Derbyshire “End of Life Award” (in association with MacMillan) and one of our Homes was selected by the CCG to trail a special project to relieve pressure for beds in hospital wards.
Although we are a small Care Group we have big ambitions. We want all our residents to feel that they are AT home, not IN a Home and what makes us special is the way we encourage and include our residents in making decisions about their lives. Not only are the residents and their families involved in writing their Care Plan, but they also make decisions regarding the day to day running of the Home such as interviewing potential new staff, menu planning and even choosing the décor. Milford Care was the first group to take residents to the National Care Congress, where six of them spoke to a room of over 100 people about their experiences in our Homes. Our residents are absolutely at the heart of what we do.
All our Homes are CQC compliant and have scored exceptionally highly in external audits and inspections conducted by the Local Authority, CCG and CQC for many years. In the past our Homes have won the regional ‘Yours Caring Home of The Year’ award, two Healthcare Design Awards and in 2014 we were national finalists in the ‘Residential Care Provider of the Year’ category at the Health Investor Awards and Care Employer of the Year at the Great East Midlands Care Awards.
